LAW-DERSWA unequivocally condemns the recent sentencing of former Members of Parliament Bacede Mabuza and Mthandeni Dube to 40 years and 28 years of imprisonment, respectively.
This egregious miscarriage of justice represents a severe and unacceptable affront to the principles of democracy, human rights and the rule of law in Swaziland.
Both Bacede Mabuza and Mthandeni Dube have been vocal advocates for democratic reforms and have courageously stood up against the repressive practices of the Swazi government. Their sentencing is not only a punishment for their political activism but also a clear message intended to intimidate and silence all voices calling for democratic change and accountability in our nation.

LAW-DERSWA asserts that the trials of Mabuza and Dube were marred by numerous irregularities and lacked the fundamental fairness guaranteed under both national and international law. The charges against them were politically motivated and the judicial process was compromised by undue influence and manipulation aimed at securing their prolonged detention.
We call upon the Swazi government to immediately and unconditionally release Bacede Mabuza and Mthandeni Dube. Their continued imprisonment constitutes a gross violation of their human rights, including their right to freedom of expression, association and fair trial.
Furthermore, we urge the international community, including the African Union, Southern African Development Community (SADC) and all democratic nations, to exert pressure on the Swazi government to respect human rights and uphold the rule of law.
LAW-DERSWA remains steadfast in our commitment to advocating for democratic reforms, justice, and human rights in Swaziland. We will continue to support Bacede Mabuza, Mthandeni Dube and all individuals who have been unjustly persecuted for their beliefs and actions. We stand in solidarity with all Emaswati who are striving for a just and democratic society.
