REMEMBRANCE STATEMENT ON THE SECOND ANNIVERSARY OF THE BRUTAL

ASSASSINATION OF COMRADE THULANI RUDOLPH MASEKO

21 January, 2025

Today, we solemnly commemorate two years since the brutal assassination of Comrade

Thulani Maseko, a courageous human rights lawyer, a tireless advocate for justice and an

unwavering voice for the liberation of the people of Swaziland.

On this day, we remember not only his tragic loss but also the legacy he left behind.

Thulani’s life was dedicated to the pursuit of justice, accountability and freedom for all

Emaswati. He was a man of integrity and conviction who believed in the fundamental rights of every citizen, fearlessly challenging the oppressive structures that sought to silence him

and many others.

Two years ago, Thulani was taken from us in a heinous act of cowardice, gunned down in

the presence of his family. This act of brutality was not just an attack on a man but an

assault on the values he stood for, freedom, dignity and the hope of a democratic Swaziland.

The pain of his loss is a stark reminder of the cost of freedom and the sacrifices borne by

those who dare to dream of a better tomorrow.

Thulani’s courage continues to inspire us all. His voice, silenced in death, resonates even

louder in our collective fight for liberation. His life reminds us that the path to freedom is often

paved with immense sacrifice, but his resolve strengthens our commitment to see his dream

fulfilled.

We stand with his family, who not only lost a loved one but have borne the weight of this

tragedy with grace and fortitude. To them, we say: your loss is our loss and your pain is

shared by all who yearn for justice.

LAW-DERSWA reaffirms its unwavering commitment to the principles for which Thulani lived and died. We pledge to continue advocating for accountability, justice and freedom for the

people of Swaziland. We demand that those responsible for his assassination be brought to

justice and that the culture of impunity be eradicated from our land.

As we remember Comrade Thulani Maseko, let us honor his legacy not only with words but

through action, relentlessly pursuing the ideals he fought for until a free, democratic Swaziland becomes a reality.

Rest in power, Comrade Thulani Maseko.
