As LAW-DERSWA, we are proud to have administered the Mngomezulu Eswatini Bursary Scheme, aimed at providing assistance to students from disadvantaged backgrounds in Eswatini. Through this initiative, we sought to bridge the gap in access to education and empower talented individuals to pursue their academic aspirations.
The process of selecting recipients for the bursary involved thorough evaluation of applications, considering various factors such as financial need or indigency, academic merit and potential for future contributions to society. While we were heartened by the overwhelming response, with over 400 applications received by the deadline on 29 February 2024. Regrettably, we could only assist a fraction of those applicants (even those who may otherwise qualified) due to our funding limit, which was to the amount of E500 000.00 for the year 2024.
Nonetheless, we firmly believe that the support provided to the successful applicants will have a profound impact on their educational journey.
However, we understand that our work does not end here. The significant number of applicants underscores the pressing need for further initiatives to support education in our community. We remain committed to advocating for systemic reforms that prioritize accessibility and inclusivity in education, ensuring that every individual has the chance to thrive and contribute meaningfully to society.
We extend our gratitude to the MSF Chairperson, Mr Sicelo Mngomezulu for his generous contribution. We thank him for his undying commitment to serving or contributing to the upliftment of those of less means in Eswatini. We wish the 73 students who have received the financial assistance great success in their academic pursuits, may they grow to be responsible members of society.
